La Lancha is built into a forested hillside that falls away to Lake Petén Itzá, and its services and amenities follow the slope down to the water: a pool set high above the lake; kayaks, canoes, and boats for getting out on it; the main lodge with its restaurant, bar, and lounge; a gift shop of Guatemalan textiles and crafts; and a hammock on every deck.
Wellness borrows from the place itself: sweat in the temazcal, the traditional Maya sauna, then plunge into the cool lake, hot to cold and back again. Afterward, an outdoor massage can be arranged at the Mirador, with the rainforest and the lake spread out below.
La Lancha keeps a light footprint in the rainforest of Petén and supports ARCAS, the wildlife rescue group on the lake. We try to look after the forest, the water, and the local culture that make this corner of Guatemala what it is.
