ON THE WATER
Privassion Creek runs through the heart of Blancaneaux. Cool off in its swimming holes among the granite boulders, walk down to Big Rock Falls, or spend a slow afternoon at the Rio On Pools, where the river slides over granite into clear pools below.
AROUND THE LODGE
Closer in, seventeen horses fill the stables, with rides for every level, trails into the Mountain Pine Ridge, a mountain bike whenever you want one, and sunrise birding when the forest is at its loudest. The three-acre organic garden is open to wander.
INTO THE MAYA WORLD
Beyond the reserve, the Maya world is close. Caracol, the largest Maya city in Belize, rises from the rainforest to the south, with the smaller, quieter Xunantunich and Cahal Pech near the western border. Underground, the Rio Frio Cave opens wide enough to walk through, and an afternoon can go to learning how cacao becomes chocolate the old way.
