From lake to ruins, La Lancha puts the best of Guatemala’s Petén within reach. Spend the day swimming in Lake Petén Itzá, paddling a canoe along the shore, making tortillas by hand, or boating to the island town of Flores, then venture farther to the Maya cities of Tikal and Yaxhá, the remote temples of El Mirador, and the forest canopy at Ixpanpajul.
ON THE LAKE
Lake Petén Itzá sits just below the lodge. Swim from the dock, take a canoe or paddleboard along the shore, or set out by boat to Flores, the old island town of cobbled streets and colonial buildings.
AROUND THE LODGE
Closer in, the day can stay slow: make tortillas by hand in the kitchen, play a round of bocce, or take a Spanish lesson. A short boat ride away, the Ixpanpajul Skyway strings hanging bridges and zip lines through the forest canopy.
INTO THE MAYA WORLD
The Petén is dense with Maya cities. Tikal, the greatest of them, rises from the rainforest less than an hour away, best seen at sunrise; nearby stand the quieter ruins of Yaxhá, Uaxactún, Ceibal, and Aguateca. In the summer months, a helicopter can carry you over the canopy to El Mirador and its great pyramid, La Danta.
PLAN YOUR EXPERIENCE
Whether you are drawn to the lake, the forest, the Maya ruins, or a quiet day on the grounds, La Lancha’s team can help arrange activities suited to your interests and pace. Most adventures are guided and best booked a day ahead.
