Mornings gently unfold, with a laden table of homemade pastries, Lucanian cheeses, artisanal cold cuts, and whatever fruit the season is giving, while rosemary, lavender, mint, and basil perfume the gardens just beyond. The day goes where you like, a cooking lesson making pasta by hand in the kitchen, or a drive into the countryside in the vintage 1970’s Fiat 130 Coupe designed by Paolo Martin for Pininfarina.

In the evening the Salon’s chandelier is raised out of the way and a projector takes its place, the films ranging from Italian Neorealist masterpieces to cinematic classics, every one chosen by Francis. What truly sets a private stay apart is what lies beyond the walls. We open private houses, old mansions, and stretches of countryside otherwise closed, building each day around what you came for, whether the food, the history, or the Aglianico. Larger groups gather nearby, everyone at the Palazzo table, which seats up to thirty-three.
